The Hoedspruit Chamber/Sakekamer would like to relay their gratitude and thanks to the Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) for the successful completion of the D1909 road's phase 1 rehabilitation project from the Eastgate Airport.
Condition of the Road
The D1909 road was in a very bad condition and riddled with potholes. The deteriorating condition had motorists worried about the safety of their passengers and tourists for quite a while. Many motorists had to resort to driving next to the tar road on the gravel parts to miss the potholes which also added to the safety concern for wild grazing animals on the road side.
Talks with MEC
Various organisations met with the MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale about their concerns. The fact that the Eastgate Airport is the first point of contact for many tourists, was the biggest concern. Maruleng Mayor Tsheko Musolwa highlighted this fact in many of his public addresses and gave his commitment to have the necessary conversations to protect the image of our popular tourism area. Thank you to the municipality and other organisations for highlighting the importance of this project to the MEC.
Road Agency Limpopo
RAL appointed contractors to start with the project and phase 1 is now completed. HCS would like to thank RAL for the fantastic work that was done even during some environmentally challenging times. The road from the Airport to the R40 is now in a great condition and tourists and residents alike, are all impressed and grateful for the repair work.
HCS would like to reiterate that the maintenance and repair of our infrastructure is vital to local economy. Poorly maintained roads lead to vehicle damage, portrays a poor image of our community and impede growth of the economic and tourism sectors.
HCS, together with other community organisations, is committed to keep awareness of the condition of our other roads in town on the agenda as well. A special word of thanks must also go out to the DA for the additional pressure they exerted on the Provincial Legislature.
It is only when we all take hands, that we can improve our community. Thank you to all the role players who continue to report issues, volunteer to assist and donate resources. You are invaluable to Hoedspruit.
